Old-Fashioned

Made with whiskey, sugar, and bitters, this classic recipe keeps things simple, balanced, and spirit-forward.

Ingredients
  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey

  • 1 sugar cube (or ¼ oz simple syrup)

  • 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Orange peel, for garnish

  • Ice (large cube preferred)

Method
  1. Add the sugar cube to a mixing glass and saturate with bitters. Muddle until dissolved (or add simple syrup and bitters if using syrup).

  2. Add the whiskey and fill the glass with ice.

  3. Stir until well chilled and properly diluted, about 20–30 seconds.

  4. Strain over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.

  5. Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink, rub along the rim, and place it in the glass.
